Easy Snack Recipes to Send Overseas - Or Anywhere! (Twistson Snacks)

It's hard when loved ones are away for long periods of time. You want to comfort them, or remind them of home. For many of us, food is love, so sending food to a dear friend or family member is a great way show you care. Unfortunately though, not all foods travel well. What you need are easy snack recipes that you can ship anywhere.

Whether you are sending a child off to camp, or to college, or you have a relative in the armed forces consider sending a "care" package. Obviously you won't want to put in anything that would spoil or get smashed. Prepackaged foods are fine, especially if they keep well over time and won't go bad in extreme heat. But if you truly want to send them a taste of home, send something homemade.

Ideas
With Armed Forces Day coming up this weekend, let's focus on items that will ship well to military personnel around the world. These ideas are also good for anyone you know that is living on another continent. It can take a long time for packages to reach overseas. They may also go through some rough handling and extreme temperatures. Here is a list of items that will fare well on their long-distance journey abroad.

* Snack mixes: cereals, crackers, and pretzels are easy to munch on and can withstand all the challenges of shipping. Be sure to fill a container tightly so they don't rattle around and break into tiny pieces. Don't add dried fruit to the mix, pack those separately and make sure that they ares in a factory- sealed package.

Here's a recipe for Super Snack Mix that doesn't contain any perishable items:
1Cup canola oil
1 jar Butter oil (Orville Redenbacher)
2 packages dry ranch dressing mix
1 box JWM Macy's CheeseCrisps
2 bags oyster crackers
1 bag chow mein noodles
1 bag crunchy Cheetos
2 cans mixed nuts
1 box Crispix cereal

Mix all the ingredients in a large bag. Bake at 250 degrees for 45 minutes, stirring a few times. This makes a huge batch that can be shared.

* Beef jerky: You can purchase this in any grocery store and it will last for a very long time.

* Baked Goods: If you want to send cookies, stack them and roll them tightly in tin foil, then place the 'cookie log' in a sturdy container so they don't crumble. You can also try placing them in a potato chip canister, or for larger cookies try a tennis ball can.
* These Chocolate Shortbread Cookies will travel well because they are hard. Unlike soft chewy cookies that can dry out if shipping takes more than one week, these will hold up to traveling.
* Not much of a baker? Try sending these crisp, sweet and all natural SweetSticks.

* Seasonings: Military cafeteria food can be bland, so ship a package of seasoning mix to be added to the boring stuff they may be getting.

* Candied or Spiced Nuts: These tasty tidbits will keep well, especially if sealed tightly. You can provide containers of both savory and sweet nuts to cover any craving. Here's an easy snack recipe we found on Squidoo.
Sugar-coated pecans
1 egg white
1 Tbs water
1 pound pecan halves
1 cup white sugar
? tsp salt
? tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 250 degrees, grease baking sheet. Mix egg white and water in a bowl until frothy. In separate bowl mix sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add pecans to egg whites and stir to coat evenly. Remove nuts and toss them in sugar mixture until coated. Spread on baking sheet and cook for 1 hour - stirring every 15 minutes.

The extras
Imagine opening a package of delicious food and also finding all the accessories you might need. Pack small plates, bowls, napkins, zip-lock bags and other items that will help them eat the easy snack recipes, and allow them to save any 'leftovers'.

So, send them food and send them love. It is a gift that will please anyone away from home.

Planning Party Snack Food with a Theme (John Wm. Macy's CheeseSticks)

Throwing a party can be a lot of work. But planning for an event can be simpler if you select a theme for your party snack food Often a party table will be set with dips, bite-sized nibbles, cheese snacks, and veggie trays. While this is fine, having some rhyme or reason to the food makes choosing your party snack recipes easier; it also creates a bit of fun.

Choosing a Theme for the Party

Pulling together a larger theme - one for the party itself, not just the food - takes a bit more effort, but some favorites that aren't too much of a challenge are "around the world" or even a specific country. Think of the fun you'll have decorating for a location party, how much fun your guests will have feeling like they're on a mini vacation, and what a treat it will be to select party snack recipes while learning about a particular country!

Color party themes are another go-to idea. Black and white parties are common, but it's difficult to find foods that match that concept. Throwing a Blue party wouldn't be a great idea either, can you think of many blue party snack foods? An orange party, however, would allow for serving any appetizers that have carrots, or cheese, or yes, oranges. Some easy party snack recipes that come to mind are cheese balls, carrots with a delicious cream cheese dip or an orange spice cake for desert!

Choosing a Theme for the Food

The theme could be food related, such as using some of the same ingredients throughout the spread. It could also be color related, especially to celebrate a holiday or certain season. It's easy to come up with red and green foods for Christmas or red, white, and blue foods for the Fourth of July. If you are not feeling very creative for the day, just turn to the internet where you can find great holiday related party snack recipes. The small amount of effort there makes a big impact on the eyes.

If it is a struggle to find a theme you are comfortable with, look at what decorations may be stored around the house. An old flower arrangement could be transformed into a center piece for a spring dinner event or an old Birthday wrapping paper could be easily transformed into a personalized table cloth. Many appetizer recipes can be made with a few ingredients that are also stored in the pantry.

So whether you're throwing a "Hot and Spicy" party, or a meat lover's extravaganza, having a theme for the food, and even the d?cor makes it easy and fun for all of the guests. They will leave the party feeling inspired and full with all of the wonderful party snack food you prepared!

Cranberry Cherry Chicken Wrap

If you are looking for a quick and healthy lunch wrap, here's one you might try on for size.  This wrap comes together in a snap thanks to convenience  grocery items and packs a punch with a whole grain flat bread wrap and lots of protein to keep you going strong!  Studies show that people get more satisfaction with "crunchy" foods, so I've included a crispy lettuce/carrot/cabbage blend as well as nutrient dense pecans to cover that category.  To balance out the flavor profile, we have sweet dried cherries and cranberries, tartness from the Greek yogurt and tarragon vinegar, the spicy bite of Southwestern seasonings on the lean chicken strips.  What's not to like?!

Click Here for Full Length Video

Ingredients:
I'll try my best to calculate the grams of fat (f), calories (c), and grams of protein (p) for each of these players per serving.
  • multigrain flat bread (2.5f, 90c, 7p)
  • 3 oz Southwestern seasoned chicken breast strips (2f, 110c, 23p)
  • 1 Tbsp sundried tomatoes (0f, 35c, 2p)
  • 2 Tbsp cherry cranberry pecan mix (3f, 60c, 0p)
  • 1 Tbsp plain nonfat Greek yogurt (0f, 20c, 3.5p)
  • lettuce blend (0f, 10c, 0p)
  • kosher salt and black pepper to taste
  • tarragon vinegar (0f, 0c, 0p)

Here we go.. Step-by-Step:
Rather than using mayo, I used 1 Tbsp plain nonfat Greek yogurt. Tangy and protein rich.
By my best estimation, this comes out to around 7.5g fat, 325 cal, 35.5g protein.
3 oz Southwestern seasoned chicken breast strips.  I used the Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh brand.
1 Tbsp sun dried tomatoes, diced
2 Tbsp cherry cranberry pecan mix (found already mixed in a bag in the produce section)
chop and mix all the stuff!
A couple of shakes of tarragon vinegar.  You could substitute other acids - lemon juice for example.

Combine and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Multigrain flat bread - lots of uses for these guys

Add lettuce blend, chicken salad and wrap these guys up!  Nice fresh, crunchy, filling, healthy, FLAVORFUL lunch!
